Houses of dragons

In the south of the island of Euboea, between the villages of Karisto and Stira, there are some peculiar buildings called "Drakospita" by the locals. The mysterious and impressive buildings, of which there are about 25, date back to the 12th century BC, and according to other sources to the 6th century BC. They are made of huge stones, without foundations and windows, but it is still unknown who built them and for whom. The most interesting and mysterious structure is on the top of Ochi Mountain, near the village of Caristo. Also quite impressive are the three dragon houses near the village of Stira, known as Palli Laka Drago. Many are in very poor condition and some are poor imitations, especially those on top of Mount Ochi. The most impressive dragon house is built on a small plain formed between two mountain peaks. It is built from large boulders that have been carved from local rocks, split and fitted together without the use of any bonding material! The walls are about 1.50 meters thick. Some of the buildings have very interesting roofs made according to the so-called exposition system.
